New narratives are taking shape about philanthropy in Africa, and especially the continent’s unique role and contribution in the areas of social giving and community resilience. What are the pillars and who are the drivers of African philanthropy? In the context of growing wealth alongside increasing inequality, what is the role that the different philanthropic actors in Africa must play in order to bring about lasting and sustainable change? What is the role of the State, the private sector as well as civil society in ensuring that philanthropic practice responds to the needs of the most marginalised citizens?
This plenary armchair discussion with commence with a brief and provocative introductory submission highlighting key concerns for debate and dialogue.
