Organisation Goals

African Grant makers Network (AGN) was launched in Accra Ghana in July 2009 as a continent-wide network of African grant making organizations and other philanthropic groups, established to facilitate established and emerging African philanthropic institutions to network and learn from each other.  The AGN Secretariat is officially hosted at TRUSTAFRICA, a member of the AGN, in Dakar, Senegal, and is administratively hosted by the Southern African Trust, in Johannesburg, South Africa, which collaborates with the Kenya Community Development Foundation towards support of the secretariat work.

The AGN vision is:

“Transformed, relevant, vibrant and sustainable African philanthropy"

Organisation Works

Broadly, AGN was established to shape and facilitate sharing as philanthropy organisations define new narratives for philanthropy in Africa, in a number of ways, through collaboration among organisations working in diverse areas.

At the core of its work, in line with members' areas of interest, is recognition of changes required through knowledge building, formulating practical actions for advocacy, and demonstrating giving practices, solidarity and social cohesion for philanthropy.
